Valrico is about 30 miles inland from the Gulf, which gives it significant protection compared to coastal areas. Direct hurricane hits on the Tampa Bay area are rare — the last major one was in 2024. When storms do come through, Valrico typically gets tropical storm-force winds and heavy rain rather than the catastrophic storm surge that hits the coast. You should still have a hurricane plan, shutters or impact windows, and supplies ready each season (June 1 - November 30).
