Summer 2026 in Valrico: Busch Gardens, Local Spots, and Everything Worth Doing

June 5, 2026

What's there to do near Valrico this summer?

A lot more than people think. Between Busch Gardens going all-out for summer 2026, the natural springs and rivers in your backyard, and Tampa Bay's beaches and downtown scene all within 30-40 minutes — Valrico residents have one of the best summer setups in the Tampa Bay area.

Here's what's worth your time this summer.

Busch Gardens Summer Nights (Now Through August 9)

Busch Gardens just unveiled its biggest summer lineup yet, and the whole thing is included with park admission. No upcharges.

What's new in 2026

Wild Skies Drone Show & Fireworks — Two all-new shows featuring 400 drones plus fireworks on select nights. One is a patriotic-themed show celebrating America's 250th birthday. The second, starting July 10, showcases designs unique to Busch Gardens.

Lion and Hyena Ridge — The park's largest new animal habitat in over a decade. At 35,000 square feet, it more than doubles the previous exhibit space. Five young male lions and a pair of hyenas with 270-degree viewing, water features, and elevated rocky lookouts. Opening date coming soon.

Nighttime roller coasters — All nine world-class coasters run after dark during Summer Nights. SheiKra at night is a completely different experience. If you have not ridden Iron Gwazi or Serengeti Flyer after sunset, add it to the list.

Free beer is back — One complimentary 7 oz. beer per visit at the Overlook Taproom (21 and older). Annual pass holders get two.

Shows worth catching (indoors, with AC)

  • Cirque Electric — World-class acrobatic performers in the Stanleyville Theater, starting June 11
  • Animal Tales — Educational presentation where you meet the park's animal ambassadors in person
  • Icons — Live performance featuring hits inspired by musical legends
  • Rhythm of Nature — An ice show following a hero's journey through the animal kingdom

More summer events at the park

America's 250th Celebration (now through July 5) — Patriotic merchandise, festive summer treats, military appreciation offerings, and the patriotic drone show.

Beach Bash — New retro high-energy show in Gwazi Plaza. Family-friendly.

Boom Box Dance Party — Returns with energetic vibes in Stanleyville.

Bier Fest Brews & BBQ (weekends July 24 – August 30) — Seasonal craft beers and beer-inspired BBQ dishes. More details coming.

Annual passes are the best value if you plan to go more than twice. Busch Gardens is about 30 minutes from Valrico via the Crosstown Expressway.

Lithia Springs — The Local Swimming Hole

Lithia Springs Park is THE summer spot for Valrico and FishHawk families. Fed by a natural spring, the water stays around 72 degrees year-round — which feels incredible when it is 95 outside.

  • Open daily, $2 per person
  • Bring a cooler and set up under the oaks
  • Gets crowded on weekends — go early or hit it on a weekday morning
  • Less than 10 minutes from Bloomingdale, Diamond Hill, and River Hills

If you have not been, go. It is one of the best things about living in this part of Hillsborough County.

Alafia River State Park

Right in your backyard and most people forget about it. Alafia River State Park in Lithia is one of the best outdoor spots in the Tampa Bay area.

  • Mountain biking — Over 17 miles of trails rated from beginner to expert. Some of the best off-road riding in Florida, with actual elevation changes.
  • Kayaking and canoeing — Launch from the park into the Alafia River. Bring your own or rent.
  • Camping — Full-facility campground with electric and water hookups.
  • Hiking — Shaded trails through the park. Look for osprey, turtles, and the occasional gator.

Less than 15 minutes from most Valrico neighborhoods. $5 per vehicle.

Edward Medard Conservation Park

Another one people overlook. Edward Medard is 1,284 acres of trails, fishing, and reservoir kayaking less than 10 minutes from central Valrico.

  • Free entry with Hillsborough County Parks pass
  • Reservoir is stocked and popular with freshwater anglers
  • Trails are flat and shaded — good for families with young kids
  • Picnic pavilions and a playground

Splash Pads and Pools

Florida summer with kids means water, all day, every day. Your local options:

  • Bloomingdale Community Pool — Resort-style pool available to Bloomingdale residents and renters
  • FishHawk Aquatic Club — Slides, lazy river, and lap pool (FishHawk residents)
  • Brandon Recreation Center Pool — Public pool with lap lanes and open swim
  • Splash pads — Several free splash pads at Hillsborough County parks in Brandon and Riverview

Brandon Farmers Market

Every Saturday morning at the Brandon Parkway trailhead. Local produce, baked goods, honey, plants, and food trucks.

  • 8 AM – 1 PM, year-round (summer produce season is peak)
  • Shaded spots along the trail
  • Free parking
  • Low-key way to start the weekend and support local

Day Trips from Valrico

One of the best things about this location — you are central to everything:

  • Clearwater Beach — 1 hour west. Best Gulf beach in the area.
  • Anna Maria Island — 1 hour southwest. Old Florida charm, no high-rises.
  • Downtown Tampa — 25 minutes via Crosstown. Riverwalk, Armature Works, Florida Aquarium, Tampa Museum of Art.
  • Bok Tower Gardens — 45 minutes east in Lake Wales. Beautiful gardens and the historic Singing Tower.
  • LEGOLAND — 40 minutes east in Winter Haven. Great for kids under 12.
  • St. Pete downtown — 40 minutes west. Restaurants, breweries, the Dali Museum, and the Saturday Morning Market.

Summer Dining Worth Knowing About

Spots in the Valrico and Brandon area that are worth your time:

  • Estela's Mexican Restaurant (Bloomingdale Ave) — Local favorite for years. Solid margaritas.
  • Two Stooges (Lumsden Rd) — Wings, burgers, sports bar atmosphere.
  • Winthrop Town Centre — Growing restaurant scene with several newer spots.
  • Plant City downtown — The revival is real. New restaurants, breweries, and a Saturday morning vibe worth the 20-minute drive from Valrico.

The Bottom Line

Valrico is not just a good place to live — it is a good place to actually enjoy your summer. Between the parks, the springs, Busch Gardens 30 minutes away, and Gulf beaches an hour out, you get suburban quiet with real access to everything Tampa Bay has to offer.

That is why people stay here. And that is why renters keep moving in.
