What's happening in our community
Happy Friday, Valrico! We've got some great stories circulating through our community this week, and I wanted to highlight the ones that remind me why I love living and working here.
Our Arts Community Is Thriving
One of my favorite things about Valrico is how we nurture creative talent at every level. This week, our local Tada Dancers got the chance to learn directly from a performer who's been part of the Hamilton touring production. That's the kind of opportunity that doesn't come around every day, and it speaks volumes about the caliber of instruction and mentorship happening right here in our backyard. Whether you've got kids interested in dance, music, or theater, or you're just someone who appreciates the arts, this is the kind of energy our community generates.

The Bette S. Walker Discovery Garden continues to be a gem for our neighborhood. If you haven't spent time there lately, this is your sign to take a walk and see what's growing. Discovery gardens are incredible for families, nature lovers, and anyone who just needs a peaceful spot to decompress. It's one of those community assets that quietly improves our quality of life.
Community Healing Matters
I read this week's piece about community healing, and it hit home. We're living through complex times, and what strikes me most about Valrico is our willingness to show up for each other. That's the foundation of any strong neighborhood, and it's something we should keep nurturing.
Infrastructure Improvements Keep Moving
Crews are mobilizing at Boyette Road near Rhodine Road this week as infrastructure work continues. These kinds of improvements might not seem glamorous, but they're essential to keeping our area functioning smoothly and supporting growth. Good roads and solid infrastructure are the backbone of a healthy community.
Election Season Brings Important Conversations
October is ramping up as we head toward elections. We've got profiles on candidates for County Commissioner District 5 (Stacy Hahn and Neil Manimala) and School Board District 6 (Karen Perez and Kenneth Gay). These races matter because they directly affect our schools, roads, zoning, and community services. I'd encourage everyone to read up on the candidates and get informed before heading to the polls.
Protecting Our Landscape
One practical item worth your attention: laurel wilt is here, and every homeowner should know what it means for their property. This is the kind of local knowledge that separates people who thrive in Florida from people who struggle with unexpected losses. If you've got bay laurel trees or are thinking about landscaping, do yourself a favor and read up on this one.
Real Estate Corner
The fall market in Valrico and Brandon continues to show solid fundamentals. Interest rates have created a different landscape than we saw earlier in the year, but we're still seeing steady activity from buyers who are serious about making a move. If you've been thinking about selling, the fall market typically offers less competition than spring, which can work in your favor.
Wrapping Up
What I appreciate most about these stories is that they reflect a community that's invested in itself. From arts education to public health to infrastructure to our green spaces, Valrico is a place where people care about doing things right. That makes a real difference in quality of life, and honestly, it's what I think about when I'm showing homes to families considering our area.
Thanks for reading this week's roundup. If you have a local story worth sharing or want to talk about your home, you know where to find me.
