What's happening in our community
Valrico This Week — June 29, 2026
Well folks, we've hit that sweet spot in summer where things really start humming around here. Between new business momentum, community service projects coming to completion, and a wave of academic achievements, Valrico and the greater SouthShore area have plenty to celebrate heading into the Fourth of July weekend.
Local Business is Booming
The business landscape in SouthShore continues to evolve in exciting ways. This month brought some solid commercial activity that shows our local economy has real momentum. Whether you're a business owner, investor, or just someone who likes to see our community thrive, there's a lot to be optimistic about. Established businesses are growing, and the energy around entrepreneurship in our area feels genuinely strong right now.
Speaking of business vitality, Oh So Rustic Market just kicked off its vibrant summer season. If you haven't stopped by yet, it's worth checking out—especially if you're into supporting local vendors and finding those one-of-a-kind items that make our community feel alive.
Community Coming Together on Important Projects
One of the things I love most about Valrico is how our neighbors show up for each other. A perfect example is the American Legion Post 246's recently completed handicap chairlift project. This kind of infrastructure improvement means real accessibility and inclusion for folks in our community who depend on it. That's the kind of work that doesn't always make headlines, but it absolutely should be celebrated.
Beyond that, there's been great attention to community education and global opportunities for our young people. Study abroad programs are opening doors for students to experience the world and bring back perspectives that enrich us all. And speaking of our next generation—congratulations to all the area high school valedictorians and salutatorians from this year's class. These students represent the best of what our schools produce, and we're excited to see where they head next.
Celebrating Our Creative Community
Valrico's cultural side got a boost this month with attention to art conservation efforts. Burgin & Brown's work helping to preserve local art collections is exactly the kind of stewardship that keeps our community's creative heritage alive. It's easy to overlook these efforts, but they matter—whether you're an artist, an art lover, or just someone who values living in a place with cultural depth.
Looking Ahead to the Fourth
With Independence Day right around the corner, there's plenty happening in the community to celebrate. Keep an eye out for local Fourth of July events and gatherings—this is always one of my favorite times to connect with neighbors and feel that real sense of community pride.
A Quick Real Estate Note
If you've been thinking about making a move to Valrico or the greater Brandon area, summer is an excellent time to explore your options. The market remains active, and with summer being prime moving season, there's solid inventory available right now. Whether you're upgrading, downsizing, or looking to invest, it's a buyer's market with good opportunity.
What Makes This Place Home
Living and working here in Valrico, I get to see firsthand what makes our community special. It's not just about the real estate—though we've got plenty of great homes—it's about the people, the businesses, the civic organizations, and the genuine care folks have for each other. From American Legion members completing accessibility projects to local merchants creating gathering spaces to educators preparing our kids for the world, there's real substance here.
As we head into the Fourth of July weekend, take a moment to appreciate what we've built together. Our community is thriving, and there's a lot to look forward to.
Enjoy the rest of your week, and I'll see you around Valrico.
