What's happening in our community
Community Coming Together for Inclusive Tennis
One of my favorite things about living here is seeing organizations step up to make our community more welcoming for everyone. ACEing Autism is bringing inclusive tennis clinics to Apollo Beach, giving kids of all abilities a chance to get active, have fun, and build confidence on the court. It's initiatives like this that remind me why I love the Valrico area so much. If you're looking for ways to get involved or support local nonprofits doing real work, this is the kind of thing worth checking out.

September is shaping up to be a solid month for business in our area. The "Eye On Business" report for Riverview shows plenty of activity and opportunity in our backyard. Whether you're a business owner, someone thinking about starting something new, or just curious about what's happening economically around here, it's worth keeping tabs on what's developing. Our region continues to attract entrepreneurs and established businesses alike, and that's a good sign for growth and job opportunities.
Supporting Local Creates Wins
There's a real push happening right now to get people thinking about dining local and supporting local businesses. "Dine Local, Support Local, Win Local" isn't just a catchy phrase—it's a movement that benefits all of us. When you choose to spend your money at neighborhood restaurants and shops instead of chains, you're putting money directly back into our community. Plus, there's even opportunity to win while you're at it. It's a win-win situation that I think more people should be aware of.
Infrastructure Updates Keep Things Moving
The Victoria Street project continues to progress. Right now, N. Knights Ave. and N. Moon Ave. are closed for construction work, but the good news is that N. Kings Ave. is back open. These kinds of infrastructure improvements might seem like small potatoes when you're trying to get somewhere, but they're part of what keeps our community running smoothly and safe. Construction can be inconvenient, but it's an investment in better roads and safer neighborhoods for everyone.
A Few Words on the Market
If you've been thinking about buying or selling in Valrico or the broader Brandon area, this is still a solid market. We're seeing steady interest from people relocating to the Tampa Bay area, and homes that are priced right and marketed well are moving. Inventory remains tight in certain price ranges, which generally favors sellers, but there's still plenty of opportunity for buyers who know what they're looking for.
What Makes This Place Special
One of the reasons I chose to make Valrico my home is because we've got a real community here. We've got organizations like ACEing Autism making inclusive spaces happen. We've got business owners taking risks and building things. We've got neighbors supporting each other by choosing to eat and shop locally. We've got infrastructure investment happening. That's the foundation of a place worth living in.
September is a great time to get outside, explore what's happening around here, and get involved if something catches your interest. Whether it's supporting a nonprofit, checking out a local business, or just being part of the conversation about where we're headed as a community, there's always something to be part of.
Thanks for reading this week's roundup. If you've got local news, business updates, or community stories you think deserve a mention, feel free to reach out. I'm always looking to highlight the good stuff happening right here in our backyard.
